E-Commerce might not be the answer!
by: Adam J. Stoehr, B.B.A.
If you haven't taken the leap to the internet
yet, chances are your small business is missing a strategic marketing
opportunity.
How many times do you go to the mall to window shop?
If you are anything like the majority of North Americans you go
the malls without having any intentions of making a purchase. People
want to know what is available and how much things cost. The same
thing goes for online shopping. People window-surf to their favorite
sites to see what is available and how much things cost.
Small businesses are taking note. According to a
new survey by the Gallup Organization more small businesses are
establishing web sites primarily to advertise and promote their
companies rather than to conduct e-commerce.
Most small businesses can benefit from establishing
presence on the web to promote their products and services. Some
of the obvious advantages are increased company awareness, increased
geographical reach, increased hours of operation, and an expanded
market. The bottom line is that it is a cost effective way of getting
your message out.
In this new wireless age it is becoming an expectation
for all businesses to have some presence on the internet. The web
has become a very important tool in the future of small business.
Those organizations that ignore this valuable tool are missing a
strategic marketing opportunity.
That being said Small Business owners don't have
to break to bank to establish web presence. Small business owners
with a web site say that getting online was simple and relatively
inexpensive. The majority have said that their sites have paid for
themselves in increased business.
It seems to me that Small Business owners have no
choice but to go online. Customer expectations as well as increased
business are the only reasons you need to get your business online.
Start small with a basic advertising awareness site, if that works
for you e-commerce might be the next step. My recommendation is
to Blitz to the net one step at a time.
